Welcome to Inner City Music
Inner City Music Ltd is the charitable organisation that operates the award-winning not-for-profit live music venue Band on the Wall in Manchester.
Band on the Wall is at the very heart of Manchester culture, a showcase venue for some of the best music in the world. We present an internationally acclaimed programme of live music events, both in-house and externally at venues across the UK.
We think of Band on the Wall as a living music library; a place where everyone can access and enjoy the best music from a wealth of different cultures. As well as promoting great live music we are committed to providing opportunities to get involved in music making.
We often work through partnerships, whereby we host projects, classes and courses designed to nurture talent and encourage community engagement. The provision of music-based learning opportunities both at Band on the Wall and in the wider community is a central tenet to Inner City Music’s purpose, and our partnerships allow us to deliver on this objective.
The venue has recently re-opened after an extensive physical development and expansion supported by Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund amongst many others, to include extensive new learning spaces, a new second venue to feature emerging artists and music students; and an expanded main venue to showcase larger scale artists and support organisational resilience.
As we expand, we aim to utilise the additional resource to support our own learning and engagement programmes, specifically providing music making opportunities for people from across Greater Manchester’s BAME communities, with whom Inner City Music has always enjoyed a strong connection. This programme is supported by the NLHF and is designed to celebrate and share the musical heritage of all our city and regions communities, promoting knowledge, respect and appreciation of our shared traditions.
Band on the Wall is also a learning centre for accredited music industry courses run by The Manchester College.
